Short-Term Leadership Continuation Planning

Important Limitations

Your Continuity Plan is intended for a temporary planned or unplanned absence of the length you specify. It helps record who will assume the CEO/Business Owner’s complete leadership role, how the plan may be activated, current readiness, and the work still needed.

What it does not do

It is not a permanent succession plan, ownership-transfer plan, estate plan, disaster-recovery system, cybersecurity plan, or substitute for legal and financial documents. It does not independently verify the authority, availability, judgment, training, or readiness of anyone named.

When a more comprehensive process may be needed

A comprehensive leadership continuation process is appropriate when the owner may not return or expects to leave permanently. It may also be appropriate for a larger or more complex organization where the requirements that must be completed before activation are too extensive to manage without structured guidance.

Your continuing responsibility

The CEO/Business Owner remains responsible for approving the plan, discussing it with those named, completing required preparation, confirming access and authority, communicating changes, and reviewing it periodically.
